North Northamptonshire Council has been nominated in a total of four categories at the prestigious Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards 2026.

As well as making the cut in the Most Improved Council section, the authority also made the final selection in a further three categories:

  • Customer Experience in Large Team of the Year
  • Adults Health Partnerships and Housing Change Improvement and Delivery Team in Small Team of the Year
  • Transforming Temporary Accommodation: Cutting Costs While Driving Better Outcomes – in the Innovation category

The LGC Awards celebrate excellence across local government, attracting more than 1,000 entries in 2026 - a record-breaking milestone that reflects the outstanding work happening across councils nationwide.

The LGC Awards are widely regarded as one of the highest honours in local government. Past winners have praised the awards as a celebration of public sector dedication, innovation and sector leading practice.

Shortlisted councils will now present to a judging panel of senior local government experts before winners are announced at the awards ceremony on 10 June 2026 at Grosvenor House, London.

This is a remarkable achievement particularly for such a new council and I’m very, very proud of all those who work hard day-in day-out to make our services the best that they can be.

We’ve been on quite a journey since the council came into being and since I became Leader of the council in May the pace of change has been truly breathtaking.

Awards like this are important to benchmark just how we’re doing. Of course, there’s always more to do and improvements can always be made. We’re determined to keep striving to deliver our Corporate Plan and become the exemplary council that our residents deserve.
Cllr Martin Griffiths, Leader of North Northamptonshire Council
I’m so proud of all the teams that have been shortlisted for such prestigious awards – getting to this stage is a massive achievement in itself and a true reflection of their hard work and commitment.

Our staff, members and partners have shown what’s possible when we come together with one vision and one ambition. We see this recognition as just the beginning – a platform for further improvements for our residents.
